WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED A PROJECT?
It is often our tendency to check it off of our list and move on to the next thing without ever looking back. In doing so, we find the oyster, but miss the pearl.
I am a “full steam ahead” type of person by nature, so I have to make a conscious effort to slow down and reflect on my learning.
I set forth a challenge for myself in the month of June; to film a short video every weekday of the month, for a grand total of 22 videos. The purpose of this challenge was to help me tackle my own perfectionism in regards to video as this is something that has paralyzed me in the past.
I invited those who were interested to join me in their version of what I dubbed, my “Perfectionism Challenge.” It was wonderful to hear from you along the way. I encourage you to take a few minutes for your own review and let me know what you learned!
I learned so much through this process that I think could be helpful to others. So here goes...
THE 3 STEPS OF REVIEW
1. What went well?
I completed 22 days of video!
2. What didn’t go well?
I spent too much time gathering too much content that inevitably had to be cut for time.
3. What did I learn?
a. So much about video! My richest learning was in the mistakes.
b. “Good enough” was often better. People seemed more interested in the videos that I had to whip out quickly vs. the ones in which I spent more time.
c. “Real" is better than "perfect.” The best videos were the ones in which I was my natural, silly self. I loved the congruency on the days when I really enjoyed filming and others enjoyed watching.
d. People want to support me in succeeding! They aren’t there to see me fail.
THANK YOU
I want to thank each of you so much for your support on this little journey of mine. Every view, like, and comment felt like a virtual hug. It meant so much to know that you were rooting for me!
WHAT’S NEXT?
Alright, I am done talking about perfectionism for a while. If you are in need of ideas on how to help your child with perfectionism, please go to my Guiding Bright Facebook page or YouTube channel and check out the videos from June.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE FOR ME TO ADDRESS IN FUTURE BLOG/BLOG POSTS? WHAT ARE YOU STRUGGLING WITH?
I look forward to hearing from you!
And remember… no matter what parenting challenges come your way...
YOU’VE GOT THIS!
