The 2015-2016 school year is coming to a close. I find myself caught up in the minutia of life. I am checking off the list of things that need to get done. In just one day, my brain has moved on from the school year and into the next phase of summer. Check the school year off the list. NEXT!
This is the busy pace of our world. We mindlessly jump from one season to the next without a thought.
But there is value in looking back before sprinting forward. It is in reflection that we grow.
Take a moment to review this school year. This may not be easy to do. We are busy. And we are so hard on ourselves. Perfectionism may rear its ugly head and have some things to say on the subject, "You didn't do things right. Look at everything you didn't get done. You are not good enough. You need to do better. You need to do more."
PUT PERFECTIONISM IN ITS PLACE!
Look at what you did do right. What did you manage to get done? What fears did you face? What challenges did you overcome? Did you try something new? Did you open yourself up to new friendships?
Share your insight with your children. Ask your children the same questions. Do something special to celebrate your wins together. This is a step in helping them let go of perfectionism.
I would LOVE to hear about your successes this school year so I am going to provide the avenue in which to do so. TAKE THE PERFECTIONISM CHALLENGE. Put all those negative thoughts aside and take courage. Mention at least one success you have experienced this year. Post a comment on Facebook or shoot me an email. Share with pride. Go ahead and take the rare opportunity to revel in your own greatness. It is good for you. This is not bragging. This is celebrating!
I will pave the way...
This year, I have worked with a number of amazing children and their families and have loved every minute of it. I have embarked on blogging, appeared as a guest on a podcast, and created a video for children. I recently received these words from a teacher about one of my clients. "He is now thriving behaviorally and excelling academically... Thank you Tina." I fulfilled a life-long dream of taking my mother to her homeland of England to see relatives she had not seen in 40 years. I have juggled many roles.
As I reflect, there are so many more things that come to mind. I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Integration complete. Now I am ready to move forward.
I am excited to celebrate your successes with you. Please share!
