Thinking that maybe you can't learn something new? WRONG! If you haven't seen the video of the backwards bike, you have to check it out.  The link is provided at the end of this post.

Children are constantly learning new things.  Some may come easy for them while others cause a great deal of frustration. As loving parents, we offer our words of wisdom for dealing with these feelings which sound to our children something like the teacher in the Charlie Brown cartoons - "wah, wah, wah, wah, wah…"  It's true.  Children observe our actions more than they listen to our words.

What do we adults know about the frustration of trying something new?  We are so busy.  Most of our learning is in terms of our work.  We play it safe by sticking to what we know.

However, our willingness to venture into the process of learning something new can be of great benefit to our children as well as ourselves.  In doing so...
  1. We model courage for our children.
  2. We model healthy ways of managing frustration.
  3. We model hard work and perseverance.
  4. We stimulate our own innate desire for learning.
  5. We celebrate our accomplishments.
  6. We learn a new skill.
So check out the video.  It's well-worth the 8 minutes.  A fascinating demonstration of neuroplasticity that the whole family will enjoy!
